Gods Messengers Dancer Spotlights

Alexis Smith

Alexis has been dancing for 23 years and has decided she will never stop.  Trained in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, modern, hip hop, and ballroom, Alexis loves all styles of movement.  She graduated in 2010 from Southern Utah University with a Bachelor's Degree in Dance Performance.  Since then, she has had the wonderful opportunity to dance professionally and share her passion of movement through teaching.  Alexis recently returned from serving a mission in the Arizona Mesa Mission (the best mission ever) and cannot even describe how those 18 months have shaped the rest of her life for the better.  She is so excited to be back on God's Messengers and what makes it even better is experiencing this wonderful company with her sister, Kayla!  She would like to thank her family for their constant support and love. "Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things."  Alma 26:12

Melissa Wilding

Melissa has been dancing since she was three training in many disciplines including mainly: modern, ballet, and jazz. She was apart of the Dixie State Dance Company for 4 semesters, she was a Dixie High Jetette, apart of the Nutcracker Ballet with St. George Ballet Company, in a performing company with Westside Dance Studio and in God’s Messangers for her third year! She has her bachelor’s degree from UVU in Deaf Studies. She is really excited to be apart of God’s Messanger’s this year!
2 Nephi 22:2 &5 “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation. Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done excellent things; this is known in all the earth.

KATIE REED
Katie Reed has been dancing since she was three years old; first in her mother's dance school, and then onto competitive dance in 7th grade at Luv2Dance in Kaysville. She was on her high school drill team for three years and continued dancing into college, where she became a member of the Dixie State College Dance Team for two years and the Dixie State Dance Company for the next three semesters. Katie is a second year member of God's Messengers and is soaking up all the amazing blessings from being a part of it.
1 Corinthians 2:3 "And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling."
God is good! He loves us and He is always there for us. I testify that if we put God first and put the hard work in, we will be blessed beyond our imaginations.

Stake Relief Society Performance

We love every opportunity that we get to share our talents and share the gospel.  It's our hope that someone in our audience, even if just one person, feels the spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ as we review events of His life through our dances.

Christmas Partay!

Minute to win it!  We are talented in SO many other ways right?  It was fun to get together with friends and family and enjoy a fun evening of food, games, and gifts.

South Jordan Performance

We felt the spirit as we shared the gospel of Jesus Christ through dance at our Performance in South Jordan.  We are so blessed to do what we love while sharing the gospel and inspiring others.

Jubilee of Trees Performance

We enjoyed performing the dance "Waiting Upon the Lord" at the Jubilee of Trees.  This piece is about the birth of our Savior.

2012-2013 Rehearsals

Our rehearsals have been great so far.  We come to each rehearsal ready to work hard, learn new material, and  dance with the spirit.  We love dancing with the purpose of worship, gratitude, and love that comes from our Savior Jesus Christ.

Even though some people might think that Gods Messengers is always so serious we still have time to joke around!

March 22, 2012

On March 26th, the God’s Messengers Dance Company along with staff and volunteers will bring to stage the fourth annual performance of one of the most unique and inspirational shows ever performed in St. George. Our concert is titled “God’s Messengers: a Dancing Tribute to the Life of Jesus Christ.” The theme of the show explores the different elements and events of Jesus Christ’s life on earth. They are some of the same elements which help us still today to find happiness and hope in this turbulent world. With a common goal to uplift and inspire, the company is dedicated to making this a positive and memorable event for all who attend. It is sure to be a night of inspiration as we relive great events in Jesus Christ’s life through dance.

Tickets for this event will cost $10.00 per person prior to the concert and $15.00 at the door. We are offering a special group rate of $8.00 per person for groups of 15-25 people and $5.00 per person for groups with 26 or more.

Tickets can be purchased at Premier Dance Center. Call 435-688-9166 for any questions or more information. Please come join this for this amazing night, you will not be disappointed.

Practices

God's Messengers' practices started in October! We have been going every week up to Christmas. These rehearsals are unique when compared with an average dance company's rehearsal. Where most companies are sweating it out with push ups, sit ups, plies, leaps, and extensive stretching; we are doing that too, but we also bring the spirit of Christ's gospel with us. After our grueling warm up we pray, share a scripture or spiritual thought, and jump into learning choreography. This choreography is special. Each new piece learned has been created to depict something from the life and mission of Jesus Christ. The choreographers find scriptural references from the New Testament of the Bible and let those verses, chapters, or parables be the inspiration for their movement. God's Messengers has provided an amazing outlet for dancers who have a strong belief in Jesus Christ as they have the opportunity to share that through their dancing.

Fireside

This Christmas we performed at a Relief Society's Christmas Party here in St. George. It was our first fireside performance and, as all first performances go, it was a little rough. We performed three of our pieces; "Twelve Were Chosen", "Temptation", and "At the Cross". The first was fast paced and uplifting as it expressed the feelings of the apostles who were chosen by the Savior. The second was much darker. It depicted the Savior being tempted by Satan in the wilderness and each dancer conveyed the eery and conflicting feeling that we all have when we are being tempted. During this piece our music suddenly cut out and we all had to somehow end the dance the best we could. The last told the emotional story of Christ's family at the cross, particularly the women in his family. Each piece had a few glitches, the music being the largest one, whether it was counts, steps, or spacing. To add to it, each of us had our own little discouragements with our dancing. However, the spirit was still felt by the audience. "There wasn't a dry eye in the room." said Misty later after the show. The Savior's spirit was still there to help us tell that Relief Society through our dancing that His gospel, life, and Atonement are true. Even though we all have shortcomings in life or in dancing, the Lord always steps in to take care of the rest.
